Stone Calculator builds free, accurate calculators for stone, gravel, sand, and aggregate projects. Every tool uses industry-standard density tables and the same three-step math quarries and landscape suppliers use, so the amount you order matches the job in front of you.
Why we built this
Ordering bulk material is unforgiving. Come up short and a second delivery costs almost as much as the first; over-order and you are paying to store a pile you did not need. Most of that waste traces back to one gap — you measure a project in cubic yards, but suppliers sell it by the ton, and the conversion depends on the density of the specific material you chose.
So every calculator here applies the correct density for its material rather than one generic number, and shows the result in cubic yards, tons, and 50 lb bags at once — with a waste allowance built in.
How the numbers are calculated
Area × depth gives cubic feet, dividing by 27 converts to cubic yards, and multiplying by the material density converts volume to weight. Our density figures are standard mid-range supplier values — where a quarry publishes its own figure, use theirs, since their scale writes your invoice. Every calculation runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
